:

to a

despatch of Sir G. Bowen No940

of 22nd May, 1885, reporting

a

complaint made to him that a

wanted

Chinese whose arrest was wan

- by the Chinese Government had

been enticed on board a

board a private

steam launch at Hongkong and - taken out of the waters of the - Colony when he was

forcibly

conveyed to Canton, where he was

thrown into prison. There is little

doubt that the complaint

was

true

but it was considered that there was not sufficient evidence to

:

press a formal request that he might be given up.
